Address Label Mandalas

Drawing from the Buddhist tradition of the Mandala as a meditation device, I use the mundane material of address labels as a vehicle to construct complicated visual patterns. Both the process of construction and the end product force a slowing down and concentration on pattern and subsequently a meditative state of contemplation of where beauty resides and how the everyday can be transformed into the extraordinary. Through whimsy and the re-evaluation of what is fair game to use in creating art I invite the viewer to spend time contemplating the timeless, deeper questions posited by these mandalas such as: How can a $10 donation to Greenpeace turn into a lifetime of address labels? Is there enough gold foil to cover the earth? Does anyone send letters anymore? This work was featured at Blackfish Gallery in April 2026

During the Address Label Mandala show I constructed a MEGA Mandala (6' x 6'). These pics represent regular updates on the progress that documented the development of the piece. This culminated in destroying the completed object at the end of the month in accordance to the practice of sweeping away sand mandalas as a gesture to illuminate the reality of impermanence.
